MI-6 Ltd. has added a new AI chat feature to miHub®.
The feature uses content from miHub® Guide, a knowledge resource for learning and applying materials informatics (MI) and miHub, including feature guides, use cases, and analytical methods. AI uses this content to provide researchers with relevant information in response to their questions.
Responses include links to the source articles in Guide, allowing researchers to resolve questions quickly and explore the underlying concepts or analytical methods in greater depth when needed. This reduces the time spent searching for instructions or suitable analytical methods and enables researchers to access relevant knowledge while continuing their research and analysis.
The AI chat feature is the first step in a broader expansion of AI capabilities within miHub. MI-6 will gradually extend what AI can access and use across the research data and knowledge accumulated in miHub, its analytical capabilities, and external systems. This will enable AI to support the next analysis or experiment based on the context and progress of the research.

Applying MI in R&D requires an understanding of how to frame a research challenge as a problem that AI can address, which analytical methods to use, and how to interpret the results.
miHub Guide provides feature guides alongside use cases based on real research challenges, explanations of algorithms and analytical methods, and learning paths designed to build understanding step by step. Researchers can use it as a practical reference and as a learning resource for developing their knowledge of MI from the fundamentals through to practical application.
The new AI chat feature provides natural-language access to the knowledge in Guide. AI helps researchers find the knowledge they need quickly, while Guide enables them to explore the subject in greater depth.
MI-6 will continue to expand miHub Guide, creating an environment where researchers can learn MI, apply it in their work, and deepen their understanding through practical experience.
Towards miHub, where AI understands the context of research and supports what comes next
The AI chat feature introduced in this release enables researchers to access the knowledge in Guide through conversation. In the future, AI will also be able to use information accumulated through researchers’ day-to-day work in miHub: information about their research themes, experimental data and histories, analytical results, and the observations and judgements derived from them. AI will be able to follow how the research has developed and use that context to support the next analysis or experiment.
It could identify what should be examined next from previous experiments and analytical results, run an appropriate analysis, and help determine the conditions for the next experiment. As miHub connects with external databases and experimental and measurement environments, AI will be able to work with a wider range of research processes.
miHub aims to create a research experience in which researchers and AI work together across the research process: accessing relevant knowledge, accumulating, organising, and using data, determining what to do next, and planning and executing experiments. MI-6 will announce further updates as these capabilities are introduced.
